Simple steps to a successful experience with your menstrual cup
Do you remember the first time you inserted a tampon? Or how you felt when you started wearing contact lenses? It’s not easy to get used to new things, and the menstrual cup is no exception. It may take several days or even several menstrual cycles for you to get used to it. But don’t worry! We hope that you will soon become a cup convert like us!
1. STEP: ORGANICUP INSERTION
- WASHING Wash both hands and the menstrual cup with warm, running water and mild soap.
- FOLD the menstrual cup in any way convenient for you. The picture shows two folding techniques – “C” and “squeezing”. Try both and decide which is more suitable for you. When inserting, the cup should be kept in a folded position until it is completely inserted into the vagina. It may require some practice.
- RELAX Find a comfortable position to insert the cup – squat, sit on the toilet or stand freely. In time, you will find the position that will be the most suitable for you.
- INSERT AND RELEASE Once the cup is fully inserted, simply pull your fingers out and allow the funnel to open. Sometimes a small pop or vacuum suction sound is heard. This means that the cup has fully opened. If in doubt, run your finger along the base of the funnel: it should be round or oval when inserted.
- TURN If you feel indentations or folds in the base of the cup with your finger, it means that the funnel has not unfolded completely. Carefully grasp the base of the cup (but not the stem) and try to turn the cup from side to side until the funnel opens completely and seals. You can moisten the funnel with water or a water-based lubricant to make it easier to insert. After you are done, gently pull the cup by the stem. If you feel resistance, it means that the vacuum has been created and the cup is inserted correctly!
2. STEP 12 HOURS OF FREEDOM WITHOUT ANY LEAKS
- Now you can leave “OrganiCup” in your vagina for up to 12 hours, even at night. If there is a lot of blood, you may need to empty the cup a little more often. By using the cup for some time, you will soon know what your optimal emptying interval is.
- OrganiCup can collect as much blood as 3 tampons absorb.
- At first, while you get used to the menstrual cup, you can also use leak proof panties or pany liners to be absolutely sure that no leaks will occur.
- The position of the cervix is different for every woman, and it depends on how high the menstrual CUP will be in the vagina. If, after several insertion attempts, the stem of the funnel still causes you discomfort, you can cut it shorter. In no case do not cut the stem while the cup is in the vagina!
3. STEP: WITHDRAWAL OF OrganiCup.
- WASH Wash your hands with warm water and soap.
- RELAX Find the position most comfortable for you to remove the cup. It is important to relax before removing the cup.
- REMOVE To remove the cup, pull on the handle and at the same time tense your abdominal muscles, pushing the OrganiCup downwards until you can grasp its base. Gently squeeze the base of the cup to break the vacuum and pull out the “OrganiCup” with smooth side-to-side movements.
- EMPTY AND WASH Empty the contents of the cup into the toilet and let water run on the cup. Don’t forget to clean the air holes as well. Insert the cup back into the vagina. If you do not have access to running water, you can clean the cup with “OrganiWipes” or toilet paper and wash it the next time a tap is available.
- REINSTALL OR STORE Once the cup has been emptied and washed, place it back into the pouch as described above. If your period is over, proceed as follows: heat the cup in boiling water for 3-5 minutes and place the OrganiCup in a cotton bag to store until the next time.
